So along came . . . Robert Tonner's 2003 Tiny Ann Estelle "Once Upon a Time" doll from the Mary Engelbreit collection. She is also 8 inches tall, with a short auburn wig and sleeping blue eyes. My Ann Estelle is a retired limited edition doll from first series of these dolls and came mint-in-box.
This tiny queen wears a gorgeous gold brocade gown with hot pink accents, trimmed with fur, lace, pearls and pretty pink roses. She has white shoes and stockings. On her head is a crown with jewels shaped as a flower on the top. However, she is obviously short-sighted, as she needs to wear gold rimmed spectacles.
Ann Estelle has the same body as Tiny Betsy McCall, but her own very cute face clearly distinguishes her from Betsy.
Both doll and costume were inspired by Mary Engelbreit drawings, though the Royal costume had to go as she soon found this is a home and not a palace.
