Takara Tomy (officially TOMY Company, Ltd.) is a major Japanese entertainment powerhouse and one of the largest toy manufacturers in the world. Headquartered in Katsushika, Tokyo, the modern company was formed March 1st, 2006, through the strategic merger of two legendary rival toy makers: Tomiyama (later Tomy, founded in 1924) and Takara (founded in 1955).
The company's diverse catalogue spans nostalgic collectibles for adults to cutting-edge interactive toys for young children. Licca-chan, frequently called the "Barbie of Japan," is a highly popular fashion doll line which was created by Takara in 1967 and remains to be a cultural icon.
